Memories through bathroom tiles - One stellar example of whimsical functional design is found in our San Francisco bachelor pad project, where we designed and custom printed images on triangular tiles that adorn the master bathroom walls. These images, featuring zoomed-in snapshots of the owner's favorite books, albums, and cultural milestones, transform the space into a memory book of his lifetime experiences.

One tile is a reminder of his mom constantly playing Neil Diamond, another harking back to Dr. Seuss, or sitting in front of the TV as a child watching Goonies with friends. It’s whimsical because it illustrates who he is and what he’s about.

2. British pub basement - Utilizing every square inch in our client’s home, we transformed their basement into a functional destination experience by emulating a British pub—on the North Shore of Chicago! The space is now a social hub and respite from the cold Chicago winters where they gather with friends within their home.

Whimsical Moments Through Art

3. Conversation-starting art - In our Rocker Mom’s Dream House project, we incorporated a thought-provoking piece of art made out of books that hangs above the fireplace mantel. By suspending a vintage bicycle on the wall in the dining room, our design added a whimsical element to an otherwise traditional space.

4. Japanese inspiration - This well-traveled couple wanted their worldly point of view reflected in the whimsical art selections for their breathtaking home. It was important to them that their home life contained inspirations in every room as a reminder of all they have done, all they have seen and all they have yet to. From a portrait of geisha to an elaborate kimono displayed as artwork, each piece tells a story and adds layers of intrigue to the space.

5. Starlit movie nights - Utilizing fiber optic lighting that emulates the starry stay in our client’s private movie theater for two, every screening becomes substantially more joyful. As the lights dim and the movie begins, the ceiling twinkles with a glittering constellation, adding a touch of whimsy to the cinematic experience.
